1st look at Eva Green in '300: Rise of an Empire'

From Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale to Morgan Le Fay in Camelot, Eva Green has made it a point to portray strong, fearless female characters.  She'll continue that trend next year as femme fatale Ava Lord in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, but before that she'll play one of Persia's great battlefield commanders in 300: Rise of an Empire.

Just days after the first images arrived featuring relatively unknown star Sullivan Stapleton, we're now getting a look at Green as Artemisia, the ruthless and cunning naval commander of the Persian force led by Xerxes. Once titled 300: Battle of Artemisia, the film is neither a sequel or prequel, taking place at roughly the same time as the Battle of Thermopylae depicted in Zack Snyder's hit swords 'n spray tans film from 2006. The story will mostly follow the battles of Salamis and Marathon, in which Artemisia played a key role.

Directed by Noam Murro and co-starring Lena Headey, Jamie Blackwell, Rodrigo Santoro, Callan Mulvey, and Jack O'Connell, 300: Rise of an Empire arrives on August 2nd.
