Seth Rogen to co-direct and star in 'The Interview'; James Franco may join

Seth Rogen and James Franco's careers have been intertwined for years, ever since the days of Judd Apatow's hit Freaks and Geeks. They helped reinvent the stoner comedy with Pineapple Express, and have made cameos in one another's films many times. Franco is part of the celebrity ensemble of Rogen and Evan Goldberg's directorial debut, This is the End, and the experience must have been a good one because they're teaming up yet again.

Rogen and Goldberg will produce and co-direct The Interview, a comedy based on their own script, about a producer and talk show host who get involved in an assassination plot against North Korea's leader. Franco is being eyed for the role of the host, with Rogen as the producer.

The Koreans can't be happy with the way they've been portrayed in the media lately, and this film isn't likely to help. Red Dawn and this weekend's Olympus Has Fallen portrays them as murderous villains, while Dennis Rodman's recent antics there have been a frequent punchline on late night TV.

The Interview won't shoot until Rogen wraps the Zac Efron comedy, Townies. [THR]
