Remember back when the Internet and social networks were really starting to become an integral part of our lives, we saw a whole rash of articles about the danger of going online? Social networking isn't really social....some people aren't what they seem....there are scams and fraud everywhere...etc. etc. Disconnect is a film that explores all of those ideas, and while it packs an incredibly ensemble, the new trailer looks awfully outdated.
Directed by Henry Alex Rubin (Murderball) and starring Jason Bateman, Alexander Skarsgard, Paula Patton, Max Thierot, Hope Davis, Frank Grillo, Michael Nyqvist, and Andrea Riseborough, the film takes a multi-tiered approach similar to Crash, and looks just as shallow. One story has to do with online bullying, one about identity theft, and the whole thing has the appearance of an afterschool special.
Reviews from the festival circuit were less than kind, but we'll see how the finished product turns out when Disconnect opens on April 12th.
