New 'Iron Man 3' character posters with Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow

The poster of Ben Kingsley as Mandarin took a break from the burning cinders theme in prior Iron Man 3 images, but the latest jump right back into it. So now we know all of those fiery bits were emerging from Tony Stark's damaged Iron Man suit, with Pepper Potts cradling the battered and scarred helmet. Stark doesn't seem all that effected by the damage, though. He looks like he could be on the cover of a magazine or something, which he actually is in this case, courtesy of Empire's most recent issue.

Not that Marvel's been keeping it a secret or anything, but Tony Stark may take a pretty serious beating when Iron Man 3 opens on May 3rd.

PLOT: Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man 3″ pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?
