New image from 'Ender's Game' with Asa Butterfield and Hailee Steinfeld

It's good that Ender's Game isn't being lumped in with all of the YA adaptations out there, because it's really nothing like them. Sure, there are young people in it, but they don't act very young. Acting young can get you killed in the warlike setting of Orson Scott Card's classic sci-fi novels, in which children are trained at a Battle School to become military leaders.

The latest photo doesn't have much to do with war, though, unless it's to fight over someone else's slice of cheese. Asa Butterfield is Ender Wiggin, and he's having a conversation with one of his closest friends, Petra Arkanian, played by Hailee Steinfeld. Petra takes Ender under her wing once he's forced into Salamander Army, and this scene probably has to do with their training. Look in the background and you can see the big scoreboard, which ranks all of the different armies.

I'm anxious to see how the alien "Buggers" are depicted. If they look anything like Starship Troopers I'll be quite happy. Arriving on November 1st, Ender's Game is directed by Gavin Hood and stars Ben Kingsley, Harrison Ford, Viola Davis, Abigail Breslin, and Moises Arias.
