It still blows my mind that the excellent Russian director, Sergei Bodrov, is making a young adult film adaptation. His willingness to put aside the long-awaited sequel to 2007's Mongol in order to direct Seventh Son has me thinking there's more to this story than just another supernatural tween romance. Perhaps the cast should have tipped me off sooner.
USA Today have the first images of Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore in the film, an adaptation of the first book in Joseph Delaney's The Wardstone Chronicles series. Also starring Ben Barnes(The Chronicles of Narnia), Alicia Vikander(Anna Karenina), Kit Harington(Game of Thrones), Djimon Hounsou(Blood Diamond), and Olivia Williams(Hyde Park on Hudson), the story takes place in a time long past where an aging knight must find the seventh son of a seventh son and train him to battle an evil witch who threatens humanity. I hope Julianne Moore isn't going to be in that focus the entire movie.
I'm curious to see how the trailer for this will stack up against Beautiful Creatures and The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. Seventh Son opens on October 18th 2013....
